Victim Of Lake Devernia Crash Identified; Water Back On In Clarksville City

The man killed yesterday when the truck he was riding in crashed into Lake Devernia has been identified. The accident happened around 5 p.m. yesterday, off Highway 80 near Clarksville City.

DPS troopers say James Weatherford was a passenger in the truck driven by his son, and got trapped when the truck overturned in the lake.

Passing motorists stopped and tried to rescue Weatherford and his son. Weatherford later died at the hospital.

"Jumped in the water and the driver come out the drivers side asked if he was o-k, if anybody else was in the truck, he said his father was still in the truck, so we immediately tried to open the door get his father out, other people showed up , we all in a team effort lifted the truck on it's side where we could finally hook a cable up to it and pull it out, and get the guy out," said Scott Bailey, one of the rescuers.

Authorities say Weatherford's son escaped without injury. Now, the wreck caused a break in a major water line, but crews worked overnight to repair the main, and all water is back on.
