Wounded Warriors The Real Heroes Of Monday's Event

A masters champion and film actor will be among the many celebrities at the Cascades on Monday.

But the real heroes of the Wounded Warrior Golf Pro-Am are the war veterans being flown in to attend.

The pro-am benefits severely injured soldiers and their families. The event received national attention from Bill O'Reily.

Organizer Dick Goetz played in a similar event and had an idea.

"I had an opportunity to spend five days with the wounded warriors that had come back from Iraq and Afghanistan with loss of legs or arm or brain injuries," Goetz said. "I was so taken by it my passion suddenly start to hit me and I said  want to do something like this back home in Tyler."

The Wounded Warriors Golf Pro-Am will be Monday, May 12 at the Cascades in Tyler. Registration is at 9:00 a.m. Opening ceremonies are at noon.

Country music star Neal McCoy will sing the national anthem.

The public is encouraged to come out and support the veterans.
