Mays Guilty Of Capital Murder

A verdict has been reached in the Randall Mays case on Friday, after closing arguments were presented earlier this afternoon.

48 year old Randall Wayne Mays was found guilty of capital murder. He showed no emotion as the verdict was read.

The next step is the penalty phase, in which prosecutors will seek the death penalty.

The jury had a choice between finding Mays not guilty, guilty of capital murder, or guilty of murder.

The jury having chosen to find him guilty of capital murder indicates that they believed that Mays intended to shoot a peace officer on the night he killed two Henderson deputies back in May of 2007.

Mays also injured another deputy that night during the domestic disturbance call that began the case.
