UT Tyler To Begin Offering Japanese Courses

The University of Texas at Tyler will offer a new Japanese language course in the 2008 fall semester, Dr. Alisa White, College of Arts and Sciences dean, announced.
Beginning Japanese I is open to all UT Tyler students and offers four semester credit hours. Enrollment is currently open online and limited to 25 spaces.
Noah Miles, UT Tyler adjunct faculty member and English instructor at Tyler Junior College, serves as the Japanese 1311 course instructor.
"The goal of this course is to give students introductory aptitude in speaking, listening, reading and writing Japanese," said Miles. "The course also offers basic strategies for reading authentic Japanese materials. We've already seen great interest for this class and I'm looking toward giving the students a greater appreciation of this culture and insight into it."
The next sequenced course is pending for spring 2009, Miles added.
UT Tyler currently offers Spanish, French and Latin language courses through the Department of Literature and Languages.
