Body Of Tyler Man Found In Burning Home

Tyler fire investigators continue to search the burnt remains of a home where the body of a 57-year-old man was found Monday morning.  Firefighters were called out to the intersection of Marian Street and Lakeview Avenue around 2:00 a.m.  When they got there the fire had already taken over the house.

Neighbors told KLTV 7 they heard an explosion early Monday morning, and when they got outside they saw flames shooting into the air.  Marvin Melton lives one street over and captured pictures of the fire on his cell phone.  He said the house went up in flames in a matter of seconds, making it difficult to fight.

"Anytime there is a fire and a lot of smoke it's hard for firefighters to see," said Tyler Fire Captain Jeff Akin.  "They were also trying to make entry into the home.  They did locate a victim, and at that point the roof did start to collapse, so we had to pull back out."  Akin says they found the 57-year-old man's body in a back bedroom.  Monday afternoon fire investigators and an arson dog searched the burnt home.

"We don't know the point of origin yet, or the cause of the fire," said Akin.  "There was so much damage in the home that it's probably going to take most of the day to dig through the debris." Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim.  They say they are waiting for the autopsy results, so they can positively identify the body.
