Amazing RV Rescue After Tornado Sweeps Through Canton

Friday's tornado in Canton tossed around some RVs parked out at Trade Days. One woman became trapped inside her RV during the storm. KLTV 7's Tracy Watler has this amazing story of survival when the woman's RV neighbors all the way from Shreveport became her rescuers.

"It started hailing and raining real hard," describes Carl Chaffee.

And before he and his wife knew it, they were hitting the floor, taking cover inside their RV.

"Just started shaking the trailer, we didn't know if we were going to be picked up or whatever. It's very scary," says Shirley Chaffee.

But it's what happened after the tornado blew through that still has them shaken up.

"We looked out and this trailer was against ours," Shirley points out.

Their neighbor's RV was blown over onto its side, slammed up against theirs with their neighbor still inside.

"About the time everything settled down, the trailer next to me, Carl said Billy's trailer rolled over and Mary's stuck inside it," says Larry Renfro.

That's when the Larry and Carl took it upon themselves to get her out.

Because the trailer was pushed over on its side Larry had to bust out one of the RV's side windows to pull his neighbor out to safety.

"She was real calm when I looked at her the first time, she had a Wal-mart bag in her hand and she said I hope I haven't forgotten anything," he adds, smiling.

It's a smile through all the clouds and chaos thanks to some neighbors turned rescuers turned heroes.

"Just what you do."

Neighbors tell us the woman had a couple of cuts and bruises from being tossed around inside the RV. She was taken to the hospital and is said to be OK.
