The Manhunt For Trooper's Killer Is Over

Around 5 p.m. Thursday, Brandon Robertson, of Tyler, was found hiding out in a heavily wooded area of Cass County and once surrounded, turned a gun on himself. He was wanted for allegedly killing Trooper Scott Burns Tuesday at Lake Of The Pines.

Now, in a twist to this story, Robertson's girlfriend, 36 year old Jennifer Petrick, was arrested at the same place Robertson was found. KLTV 7's Courtney Lane just returned from the scene and brings us the latest, as details continue to unfold.

An eager crowd applauded and cheered law enforcement upon hearing the intense manhunt was over.

"They worked hard, long hours, some of them didn't get any sleep for days," said Cass County Sheriff James Estes.

It all came to an end late Thursday afternoon when law enforcement zeroed on an abandoned barn down Club Lake Road outside Linden.

"You couldn't even see the barn because it was so overgrown," said Texarkana DPS Trooper Sylvia Jennings.

Robertson was found hiding out there with his girlfriend Jennifer Petrick.

"We have some evidence that they were sleeping in the barn," said Estes.

The two were tracked-down after Robertson used his cell phone several times, making calls out that authorities were picking up.

"When he heard the helicopter that's when he called 911 and that's how we knew we were in the right location," said Jennings.

"I heard he called 911 and then he shot himself," said neighbor Norman Cook.

Robertson's body and the blue Dodge Intrepid he was driving the night of the fatal shooting is still here, while law enforcement continue to investigate.

There are still more questions unanswered but many are breathing a sigh of relief Thursday night.  Though for Trooper Burns' family, it will never be enough.

"He was a good friend of every law enforcement member out here," said Estes.  "There couldn't have been a finer young man in this part of the country as far as I'm concerned."

Authorities expect to be out most of the night investigating. Robertson's girlfriend is booked in the Cass County jail. So far, no charges have been filed, as they determine what exactly her role was.
