Truck Explodes Under I 20 & 69 Bridge

Miraculously, the two people inside the truck survived. As our cameras were arriving so were yours. A truck carrying produce West on Interstate 20 plunged into a concrete barrier below

"Came off the interstate and hit the barrier wall there on the North bound side of 69 and burst into flames," said James Cowart, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5.

The pictures tell the whole story. The truck hit the barrier, keeping it from traveling onto 69 and then within minutes it burst into flames, the flames grew.

"People who saw it happen said it immediately burst into flames. Fire started, more or less an explosion," said Cowart.

One of those 19 year old Yasmine Friend of Tyler saw it happen.

"I was coming out in the lobby because I saw a lot of cars backed up and thats when I seen the truck go in flames. It was like black all over the sky. I mean I was in tears crying," said Yasmine.

Then a miraculous rescue by a Good Samaritan stopped at the red light.

"Then some people at the red light saw it happen. A few of the guys went over knocked the drivers side window out, and pulled the driver and passenger and got them out and probably saved their life," said Cowart.

The cause of the accident is still unknown, but those of you who saw and snapped this wreck share relief that it was not a lot worse.

Another point of concern is the integrity of the I 20 overpass now. Tx-DOT officials say while there is not much to worry about as far as the support beams, they may conduct an inspection, just to be safe.
