Memorial Service Scheduled For Kilgore ISD Teacher

Her classroom was empty when we visited, but Monday, memories of Shannon Gilley were filled with lasting impressions.

"It's a huge loss," said Sheila Haralson.  Haralson's room is right down the hall from Gilley's.  She said everybody that knew Gilley, loved her.

For 13 years, Gilley worked for Kilgore ISD--a dedicated teacher with a desire for learning.

"She had an incredible amount of energy," said Haralson.  "She [was] the kind of person that would come to school and she was happy to be here."  Another teaching colleague, Andy Adams said she lived life to the fullest.

Some called her vivacious--someone who invested as much as she could into everything she did, from cheer coaching, to teaching science.

"She [was] very engaging.  She loved life and was very happy." Haralson said she was the kind of teacher parents wanted for their children.  "There was a lot of learning going on."

Notes and messages left behind were just one way the campus expressed it's grief.  Mrs. Gilley's door was lined with posters and letters from students.

"Memories like these get etched in your brains pretty good," said Adams.  "The good thing about Shannon is that everybody's going to leave with the good side of Shannon."

A memorial service has been scheduled for Shannon Gilley.  It will be Wednesday at 4:30pm at Dodson Auditorium located on the Kilgore College Campus.
