East Texas Celebrates Earth Day

They arrived via hay ride from all over East Texas to spend time with Mother Nature.  They also learned how to take better care of her.  Kay Taylor said she and her nephew, Trey, both enjoy the outdoors.

"We're out to see how we can preserve it," said Taylor.  There was something for everyone as East Texas celebrated Earth Day.  From using the sun to bake brownies, to water conservation different vendors served up different ways to leave behind a smaller global footprint.

"The whole point of Earth Day is caring for those around us," said event chair Debbie Shafer.  "One of the ways we need to show our care is by conserving resources."  Shafer hopes families can find at least one way to apply what they learned in their own homes.

"Anytime you're talking about anything dealing with the environment, you're actually talking about people," said Shafer.  The message has hit home for some families, as they looked to the great outdoors to learn how to protect the great outdoors.
