Over the river and through the woods, to Smith County Jail they go. Two alleged East Texas burglars send police on a chase, both in their car and on foot.
It all started around 9:00 a.m., Thursday when the Smith County Sheriff's Department says they got a call of a house burglary in progress on County Road 2248 off Highway 64 East. After a short car chase through Tyler, the suspects crashed their getaway car into a phone pole at the intersection of E. Martin Luther King Blvd. and N. Carlyle Ave. Authorities say the suspects then took off on foot.
Our cameras were there as authorities arrested one of the suspects. Deputies say they found him, a juvenile, hiding nearby in an empty pool. Deputies spotted the other suspect in a creek in some nearby woods. More than a dozen police officers and sheriff's deputies searched the area, but were not able to find the suspect. One police officer was even injured when he fell in the woods separating his shoulder.
Because he's a juvenile the name of the arrested suspect has not been released. He's facing burglary of habitation and evading arrest charges. The sheriff's department says they were able to recover a stolen shotgun and computer.
