Woman Busted For Plotting To Kill Her Ex-Husband

It's like something out of a movie - a murder plot is foiled right here in East Texas. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Department said a Jacksonville woman made plans to kill her ex-husband.

The Sheriff's Department said they learned that 40-year old Rhonda Stone of Jacksonville was looking for someone to kill her ex-husband. So an undercover deputy called her, pretending to be a hit-man. And sure enough, Stone took the bait.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department, Stone said she wanted her ex-husband dead and she would pay a large amount of money to make that happen. They also said she has a previous record of drug charges and has served time in the state penitentiary. The Cherokee County Sheriff said Stone and her ex-husband obviously didn't have a good relationship, but her ex was shocked to learn she would go this far.

"She just wanted him done away with," said Cherokee County Sheriff James Campbell.  "Her exact words were 'I want him done away with, I want him gone' and she was willing to pay for it... We do have her on audio tape as well as video tape trying to arrange this."

The Sheriff's Department has warned the ex-husband because they're not sure if Stone hired someone else to follow through with the murder plot.

Stone is being held in the Cherokee County Jail on a $200,000 bond. She is being charged with criminal solicitation to commit capital murder. It is a first-degree felony and, if convicted, could send her to prison for life.
