Nacogdoches May Soon Be Smoke-Free

Tyler and Longview may soon have another East Texas city joining them with smoking bans.

The Nacogdoches City Council is set to vote on the issue this Tuesday.

Officials say this issue is proposed to prohibit smoking in public places and places of employment, like other bans already passed in Tyler and Longview.

Already city officials are speaking out on the proposed ban. "I think overall it's going to be better for our city to be smoke free," said Nacogdoches mayor Roger Van Horn.

"I haven't decided which way I'm going to vote, but keep in mind, I do recognize how serious secondary smoking is," said Billy Huddleston, the city commissioner.
