Cooking noodles and popping balloons was the focus of an offbeat invention competition at Letourneau University. It was the 2008 Rube Goldberg Invention Competition, featuring 4 teams trying to come up with the most outrageous contraption, which would perform unusual minor tasks. The fun is in the long string of twists and turns the inventions go through.
The cartoon like competition was attended by several hundred people. For many, it's an opportunity and a much needed life skill, problem solving.
"Murphy's law, anything that might go wrong will go wrong, so you start to learn how to deal with real life situations" says Letourneau engineering student Sungyub Lew.
It wasn't just for fun. The competition counts and a lab grade for the students.
