Updated: Strong Local Storms Knock Out Power To Thousands

Strong thunderstorms carrying 70 to 80 mph winds made their way through East Texas this morning, and they left behind a lot of debris.  KLTV 7 has seen several downed trees and power lines.  Several traffic lights in the Tyler area were out.  Police are asking drivers to use caution this morning.

One tree fell on top of Hogg Middle School. We are also hearing reports of roofs being torn off homes due to strong winds.

Right now, Oncor tells us they have under 1,500 customers without power, mostly in the Tyler/Whitehouse area.  They do have crews out at this time.

SWEPCO is reporting 312 people are now without power in Gregg County.  In Upshur County, 2,274  people are without power.

We will continue to update you on the storm damage on KLTV.com and on KLTV 7 News at 5, 6, and 10 pm.
