Child Abuse Awareness Month Marked In Cherokee County

Tuesday morning on the steps of the Cherokee County Courthouse, local Crisis centers held a Child Abuse Awareness Kick-Off Rally.
Child Protective Services, State Representatives, The Cherokee County Child and Family Services Board, and many other groups and residents showed up for a ribbon cutting and balloon release declaring April Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Over 60,000 children are confirmed abuse victims each year in Texas.  In 2007, 223 Texas children died from abuse and neglect.
The rally kicked off a month of events, including a fundraiser called "The Great East Texas Duck Race". You can adopt one of the thousands of little yellow rubber ducks that will race across Lake Jacksonville on April 19th.  The owner of the winning duck gets a great prize.
