How To Shop Smart For That Perfect Prom Dress

The glitz and glam of High School Prom. It's that time of year again where girls are shopping for that perfect prom dress. But many parents suffer sticker-shock when their daughters find the dress of their dreams. KLTV 7's Courtney Lane set out to see what's hot this year, and how you can find those fashion-savings.

When it comes to prom dresses, anything goes. From slim and sleek, to long and beaded, puffy ball gowns, and short and sassy.

"Brown is huge this year," said owner of Brides & Belles of Tyler, Jo Ann Owers.  "Chocolate brown with some real blingy jewelry and shoes."

"A lot of girls I know wear kind of plain, short dresses," said Whitehouse senior Chelsea Douglas.

Douglas is in a mad-dash to find that perfect dress for her senior prom.

"I really want something short and kind of crazy with a lot of different colors," said Douglas.

But she didn't seem too concerned about the price tag. If you are shopping on a budget, however, you may have to be a little more creative.

"Some girls shop on the Internet," said Owers.

Online sites like "" and "" allow you to shop in your specific price range, a lot of times offering free shipping. Or how about dance wear? At sites like "discount dance supply" you can pair a flowy skirt, for about 32-dollars, to pair with a fancy top. Of course, also check out the sales. A lot of designer dresses from last season are slashed significantly. And of course, accessories make an outfit.

"We have rhinestones on the shoes, you can have dangle rhinestone earrings and a cute little handbag," said Owers.  "You can dress up a simple black dress."

"I have friends that just borrow dresses from other people," said Douglas.

Whatever your method and your style, there are plenty of options to save. That way you can still be the "belle of the ball" without breaking the bank.
