Citations Issued In Longview Tobacco Sting

On Saturday, April 5, 2008, Longview Police conducted a tobacco sting operation at several different tobacco retailers within the city testing for compliance with the state law in regards to underage tobacco sales.

Sixty-six locations were checked resulting in citations being issued at 13 of the locations for "Sale of Cigarette or Tobacco Products to a Person Younger than 18."

State law requires retailers to ask for valid photo identification from any person wanting to buy tobacco products who looks younger than 27 years of age.

The Longview Police Department has checked almost 400 retailers this grant year for compliance and we will periodically operate these stings at unannounced times and we strongly advise all tobacco retailers to comply with the state law.
