No Smiles For Dentist Who Admits To Videotaping Employees Changing

A North Texas dentist accused of using a hidden camera to videotape female employees in their changing room has escaped having to register as a sex offender.

Steven C. Durbin also is a city commissioner in Ennis. He pleaded guilty today in Waxahachie to a state jail felony count of improper photography or video recording. He was sentenced under his plea deal to five years of community supervision with deferred adjudication.

The 50-year-old dentist also must attend sex offender counseling. Durbin's work and home computers will be monitored for improper material, and he will have to pay up to $1,000 in counseling expenses for the victims.

All eight victims testified that they agreed with the plea deal. Three gave impact statements.

Durbin has said he would not seek re-election to the city commission in May, but he still has his dental practice.
