Titus County officials find a pipe bomb on a man after a traffic stop, and authorities believe he could be connected to several reports of explosion in the county.
Harold Jackson Smith III is charged with prohibited weapon and possession of controlled substance. Deputies say Smith, 31, of Cookeville was taken into custody on Sunday after a criminal trespassing complaint, but deputies didn't find an explosive device until after they took him to jail.
Deputies also found methamphetamine and bomb related materials in smith's truck.
Last week, deputies were called to a farm located on CR 4840, because neighbors reported hearing an explosion.
"We believe the scene that we responded to last week, we either had something similar to this device we confiscated from Smith or possibly we had a methamphetamine lab blow up. We don't know at this point," said Miguel Larsen, Chief Deputy of Titus County Sheriff's Office.
Since February, deputies have received five reports of a loud explosive type noise in the county. Deputies say they believe Smith is connected to the incidents.
