Tyler Komen Race For The Cure Date Set

It's time to register for the tenth annual Susan G. Komen Tyler Race for the Cure set for Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Bergfeld Park.  The Komen Race Series is the world's largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer. The Race attracts people of all ages and fitness levels.  Although most participants choose to walk or jog, elite runners are also drawn to this event.  All Komen Race for the Cure courses are certified by USA Track and Field.  The first 5,000 registrants are guaranteed a t-shirt.

Breast cancer survivors are celebrated through the National Breast Cancer Survivor Recognition Program.  Breast cancer survivors who wish to be recognized wear complimentary pink caps and t-shirts. In addition, all participants are encouraged to wear  "In Memory Of" and "In Honor Of" back signs, honoring loved ones for their strength and courage.  This is one of the signature traditions that make the Komen Race for the Cure® Series so unique.

Online registration is available at www.komentyler.org for $22.  Pre-registration for the race for individuals is $25, or you can register on race day for $30.  For a $50 registration fee, the "In the Pink" package includes reserved parking, one race entry and a special gift.

Children 12 and younger can register for $15.  All registered children ages 8 and under are invited to participate in the kid's dash at 7:45 a.m.  All will receive an award.

At 7 a.m. all survivors are invited to a free breakfast and at 7:30 a.m. survivors will form a pink ribbon for a group photo. At 8 a.m. the one mile co-ed fun run/walk begins while the 5K co-ed run/walk begins at 8:30 a.m. The awards ceremony starts at 9:45 a.m.

"Power of Ten" is new for 2008.  The Race Committee invites East Texans to join them in participating in this effort to ask ten people to donate ten dollars to benefit Komen projects.  Since this marks the Race's tenth anniversary, it is even more meaningful.  The additional benefit could add up to more than $500,000 for breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment.

If getting up early on a Saturday is not your thing or you will be out of town you can register for the Sleep In for the Cure® program.  For $35 you will be mailed a t-shirt, bib,

sleep shirt and other promotional items from our sponsors including Sleep Masters, Spin Out and Starbucks.

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure®

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever.  In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and launched the global breast cancer movement.  Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.  Since its origination, the Race Series has grown from one Race in Dallas with 800 participants to a global series of over 120 Races with more than 1.5 million people expected to participate in 2008.  The Race series has also grown internationally with events in Germany, Italy and Puerto Rico.  Thanks to events like Komen Race for the Cure, nearly $1 billion has been raised to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.  For more information about Susan G.
