Longview Spelling Bee Benefits Adult Reading Program

East Texas Literacy Council is teaching adults to read one letter at a time. To help with the cause, the group held its 11th Annual Spelling Bee at Pine Tree Junior High Wednesday.

Fifteen teams from various Longview companies participated. And along the way they proved no matter how educated you are, there are just some words you can't spell.

Some spellers had so much fun last year, they came back again.

"We realized the first year we weren't asked because we were great spellers. We took it rather seriously the first year... you could go anywhere in town and find people studying those words."

Teams paid 600 dollars to enter the spelling bee, and Eastman Chemical Co. won the contest.

The next spelling bee is set for August 7th in Tyler. They still have room, if your organization wants to get in on the fun.
