Two Year Old Killed In Jacksonville House Fire

A two year old girl was killed in a house fire yesterday near Jacksonville.

The girl was staying with relatives while her parents were working, and the relatives say she was asleep in the front bedroom of the house while they were working in the front yard. When they realized the house was burning, they tried to get into the house, but were unable to because of smoke and flame.

Jacksonville, Earl's Chapel, Lake Palestine East and New Summerfield fire departments answered the call to the fire.

The child was located in the front part of the house by firemen later that afternoon.

Justice of the Peace James Morris held the inquest and the victim was sent to Southwest Forensic Lab in Dallas for the autopsy.

The state fire marshal was to arrive Friday morning and along with detectives from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office are continuing the investigation.
