Historic East Texas Homes On Tour

An annual event will allow you to go back in time this weekend.  Throughout Tyler's Azalea District, seven homes will be on display, most of which were built in the 1930's.  The event benefits Historic Tyler, Inc., which's mission is to preserve Tyler's historic treasures.  Something new this year is a Designer Showcase home.  Tour organizers say several Tyler designers came in and decorated the empty home, but that's not all that's new this year.

"We wanted to have something that maybe the men would want to come out and see," said Tour Chairman Lori Marshall.  "All of the ladies love the tour, but we know the men would like antique cars, so we arranged to have those out in front of the houses, so each house will have a car that is the same vintage as the home."  The tour kicks off Friday night with a Candlelight Tour and Party at the Bennett house on South Chilton.  Tickets are $60 at the house.  The remaining six homes will be on display Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and again on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 on the day of the tour.  You can purchase the tickets at Bergfeld Park on Saturday and Sunday, or Brookshires in advance.  For more information go to our homepage and click on Know More on 7.  There you will find "Historic Tyler On Tour."
