Police: Intoxicated Driver Hits Power Pole, Paluxy Shutdown

UPDATE: Tyler Police have identified the person involved in the wreck that knocked out power in parts of South Tyler as 19-year-old Spencer Redd of Tyler. He is in the Smith County Jail charged with Driving while Intoxicated. Around 11:45p.m., power was reported out along Troup Highway from Loop 323 to Thistle Drive.

Police say an intoxicated driver hit a power pole in the area of Paluxy and Rickety around 9:00p.m. Sunday. That driver is in the Smith County Jail, but the identity of the suspect has not been released by Tyler Police.

Power lines were left hanging just above the ground. Oncor crews were on scene to survey the situation. An officer on the scene told kltv.com the area surrounding Paluxy & Rickety will be closed until at least 2a.m. Monday.

The crash left numerous Tyler streets in the dark Sunday night.


Alternative Routes for Paluxy @ Rickety Drive:

Southbound Paluxy: Take Loop 323 to either New Copeland Road or Troup Highway.

Northbound Paluxy: Take Shiloh Road either East to Troup Highway or West to New Copeland Road.
