Operation Appreciation Sends Cookies To Troops

A little bit of Americana is being sent over to military personnel in Iraq, thanks to the efforts of several east Texas groups. Members of east Texas girl scout troops, Pine Tree students and members of Saint Michaels church in Longview, gathered today to pack 24-hundred boxes of girl scout cookies , to be sent to our troops overseas. The effort was made possible by donations and sales of the traditional cookies by scouts and individuals. Hand written notes from the kids were included in the packages which will be sent to 150 servicemen and chaplains.

"We're doing it so that soldiers overseas have something from home that that's good" said girl scout Alina Masotti.

"We're here for them because they are over there for us, and we won't forget them we're waiting on them to come home , and we're with them" said Cheryl Richardson who's son is serving in Iraq.

The cookie packages will be mailed out on Monday, and should reach troops in about a week. Each soldier will receive around eleven boxes of cookies apiece. Bob Hallmark reporting/bhallmark@kltv.com
