Taking Strides To Fight Muscular Dystrophy

More than 200 East Texans woke up early Saturday morning and strapped on their tennis shoes to participate in Tyler's annual Muscular Dystrophy walk.

Many were joined by their four legged companions to cover the three mile walk. Now, all the proceeds go to fund M-S research, and even a self-help group in Tyler. The committee chair of the event knows all too well how difficult living with M-S can be.

"I was diagnosed with M-S in 2003, while going through nursing school," said Committee Chair Holli Benge.  "Since then, I've been involved in it as much as I could. I'm a firm believer that either you live with something or you give up to it, and I wasn't going to fight it the whole way."

"There's some people out there that aren't as fortunate as I am," said participant Jocelynn Hinton.  "I came here to support them."

The goal of this year's walk was to raise 12,000 dollars. Organizers were still calculating, but do believe they've met that goal.
