Buckeyes Dedicate Nelson's Jersey

Josh Nelson loved playing football for the Gilmer Buckeyes.

When leukemia kept him off the field, the team adopted his last name as their motto.  Josh passed away last August, but he will forever be a part of Buckeye football.

Friday members of Josh's 2007 class presented Coach Jeff Traylor with one of Josh's game jerseys.

Coach Traylor said no one will wear the number 28 as long as he is coach. Josh's jersey will hang in the field house.

"It means a lot just to know that his memory is going to keep going," said Josh's sister Tasha Brown, "and that everytime somebody walks into this field house and they will know the struggle that he had in life. When they get out on that football field, they'll take that with them."

"You couldn't have designed a person to better have a motto after or have your community to look up to," Coach Traylor said. "We don't understand God's plan for sure but looking back at it. I cannot tell you how many people's lives have been touched because of him."
