With our stylish shoes laced up, Timothy and I headed to our lane at Green Acres Bowl in Tyler.
After his first roll, I realized I was in trouble. But, he was quick to give me a few pointers. "You hold the ball like this, pull it back, then let it go," says Timothy as he gives me a brief bowling demonstration.
"Timothy is a great kid. He's got a great smile. His eyes kind of sparkle. He seems to have a really outgoing personality," says Lori Sutton-White with Child Protective Services.
In his next roll, Timothy knocks down all the pins. He turns with a big smile and says "I don't think I ever got a strike before."
Bowling isn't the only sport Timothy enjoys. "I like to play basketball. I like fishing and I like video games."
And when he grows up... "I've got a few options. I want to be a basketball star, an all-pro basketball star. Or, be a policeman," he says.
And, like a typical teenager, "I like girls."
Lori adds, "He's a sharp dresser. He's got a lot of clothes and he'll need a big closet."
Timothy quickly pulled ahead in the game and never looked back, much like his outlook on life and now he's looking to a brighter future.
He was removed from his home several years ago because of abuse. He's honest about how his past has affected him and what he's working on. "My anger and keeping my mouth shut," he says.
"You know he has a lot to be angry about. He's separated from his brother and his sister. He's had to wait a while to be adopted. His family had a long history with the department. They moved a lot and there was a lot of domestic violence," explains Lori.
What he wants now, is simple. "A mom and dad," he says.
"He wants to change his life and he wants to be successful and he's working hard toward that goal."
A goal he's hoping to reach soon with the Gift of Love.
