Educating Young Ones About Dinosaurs & Fossils

Have you ever touched something 400 million years old? Well, some very young East Texans did just that Tuesday.

A group of children at the Discovery Science place got to learn with fossils of all species. Their education lesson included history of the earth and dinosaurs - a fascinating and intriguing thing that instructor Gene Goar loves.

"I love doing it because I see the eyes glitter. The children because they are interested in it, not just dinasours and they are quite interested in the fossils when they begin to understand something about it," said Gene Goar, East Texas Gem and Mineral Society. "It's educational, refreshing, it's a wonderful to hobby to adopt in your life, and people are interested in it for that reason.

Goar says he has been collecting fossils since he was 10 years old.

The East Texas Gem and Mineral Society is dedicated to promoting knowledge and interest not just in the areas of rocks, minerals, fossils, geology and related earth sciences. They meet once a month on Monday nights at 6:45 in the auditorium next to the Discovery Science Place. If you would like to join them contact Gene Goar at (903) 245-2013 or
