UT Tyler Criminal Justice Professor Named To National Committees

Dr. Barbara L. Hart, associate professor of criminal justice at The University of Texas at Tyler, has been named to two national committees by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, Dr. Alisa White, UT Tyler College of Arts and Sciences dean, announced.

ACJS is an international association established to promote professional and scholarly activities in the criminal justice field.

Hart has been invited to serve on the Academic Review Committee, which approves or denies institutional requests for the new criminal justice certification program by ACJS. She was among the first educators to be nationally certified as an ACJS reviewer for programs applying for certification. She also was a charter member of the ACJS committee that helped establish certification criteria.

In addition, Hart will serve on the 2009 ACJS Program Committee for the annual meeting to be held in Boston. Hart will be responsible for identifying and organizing researchers so they may present their findings on the topic "Guns and Crime."

She serves as the director of the criminal justice master degree program at UT Tyler and holds a Ph.D. from Sam Houston State University.
