Dream Comes True For Laneville

Laneville had been there before. Last year, in fact, they played for the state title and lost. This year they knew that just going to Austin wasn't enough, and that focus brought them the Class 1A Division II Championship.

They beat Goodrich 56-50 Saturday night to claim the title, the school's first since 1993. Byron Blanton was the MVP, he had 18 points and 12 boards. Marcus Anderson had 25 points. For the team, it was a dream they worked all their lives to reach.

"I've been with a lot of them since they were in the seventh grade," Lanevile coach David Nichols said, "and this is something that they've wanted and earned. They've put the time in, and they just have an unbelievable amount of desire."

"It was important for us," senior Marcus Anderson said, "because we're all kinfolks and we all dreamed this dream in the backyard. I think it was amazing we finally had the chance to play in front of our friends and family, it was really important to us."
