Saturday was Firefighter Appreciation Day at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Tyler. Kids and adults alike were on hand to meet the firemen, check out the equipment, and meet the fire dog.
Captain James Pike of the Tyler Fire Department received a plaque, and the department received 100 smoke detectors to give away from the KIDDE corporation. Captain Pike explained that summer is an especially dangerous time for fire safety. "There's somewhat of an increase because people are out and about more. Probably somewhat more with the boating, motorcycling, things like that that they do, plus the barbecues, campouts and things."
