TISD Addresses Allegations of Student Violence and Teachers Leaving

There have been conflicting reports at John Tyler High School on how the school is being run.

Some teachers say it is just not safe and some students have been protesting the fact that teachers may be leaving, but administrators say all the negative reports all false.

For the second day, John Tyler Principal Aubrey Todd and police refuted published reports a gang fight broke out after Wednesday's student protest.

Friday, some students' and teachers' concerns over an alleged bathroom lockdown were addressed at a press conference. Again, TISD denies that. And what about confirmation teachers were disciplined this week following the string of allegations aimed at John Tyler? Superintendent Donald Gentry addressed that.

"I can assure you the district is not taking any retaliation for teachers who speak out against the administration against what's going on the campus,"says Superintendent Donald Gentry. "They certainly have that right, they certainly need to do it in an appropriate way."

TISD maintains that none of the students behavior here was out of the ordinary, but they will be adding another police officer at JT and at Robert E. Lee next year for security reasons
