Kilgore College President Bill Holda announced today that he will sign an articulation agreement between Kilgore College and Stephen F. Austin State University guaranteeing the transfer of all Kilgore College music majors' piano credits to SFA.
The agreement will be signed on March 4th by both Holda and SFASU President Baker Patillo.
"Some of the music majors transferring from Kilgore College to Stephen F. Austin State University have encountered difficulties in equating piano credits here as opposed to those at SFASU," said Jeanne Johnson, KC music and dance department chair.
Johnson said one of KC's music majors that transferred to SFASU ended up being required to take additional piano courses despite having completed equivalent classes at KC.
"When I was informed of this inequity by the student, I contacted Ron Anderson, head of the School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University," Johnson said. "Ron dispatched the new head of class piano at SFASU, Mr. Mario Ajero, to our campus to take a look at our class piano instruction and evaluate the level of that instruction here at KC."
According to Johnson, who helped write the wording of the agreement, it is "designed to protect the interests of transferring students as they move from one institution of higher learning to another."
