Luxury Living, Fine Dining And Shopping May Soon Come To Tyler

What is now a heavily wooded-area could soon be filled with luxury-style townhomes and condos, new office spaces, a four-star hotel, and an open-air mall.

"This is very exciting," said Tyler Mayor Joey Seeber.  "One of the things stated in Tyler 21 is that we want our city to grow in all areas."

The proposed site plan is on nearly 550 acres around Lake Bellwood. It's described as a modern, European-style shopping and fine dining experience.

"It'll also keep people here who might've gone to a Dallas or Houston," said Tom Mullins with the Tyler Economic Development Council.  "They can find shopping experiences here that are the same as a big urban area."

"Tyler itself is a retail hub of East Texas," said Seeber.  "It's a good place for retailers to locate and for developers to do their projects."

The plan also includes long nature trails and new roads to connect and hopefully ease traffic.

"When these businesses come it affects other businesses," said Seeber.  "It will obviously affect our tax revenue and we're able to provide more services and provide a better quality of life for our citizens, so it's a great thing."

And concerning Lake Bellwood, the city of Tyler said it will be protected. If the site plans are approved, the lake would remain a historic landmark around modern luxury-living.
