Long Time East Texas Businessman Passes Away

He sold furniture in East Texas for more than 50 years.  Well known Tyler businessman Bill Murphy has died at the age of 79.  For years, you saw Murphy's commercials on KLTV 7.  Murphy, along with his family members first owned Broadway Furniture Company and later Murphy's Furniture gGllery in Tyler.

Murphy passed away Tuesday after battling cancer for ten years.  Family say Murphy took great pride in both his furniture store and the Tyler community.

"He was originally in business with his brother Allen and opened up Murphy's in 1978, and that was kind of his baby," said Bill Murphy's son Mike Murphy.  "You could really tell that he was proud of the business that he ran.  He also loved his community, and went to Green Acres Baptist Church.  He taught Sunday School there and sang in the choir, and just loved it.  He loved Tyler."  A memorial service celebrating Murphy's life will take place Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler.
