There are some who say the next presidential election will be the last opportunity for those of us in the baby boom generation to be a significant force in a national election.
In 2008 we are expected to comprise 39% of the voting age population. After 2008 that percentage will continue to drop.
From where I sit this is our last chance to get it right.
So far there have been two boomers elected president. The first was Bill Clinton, the second George Bush.
They have arguably been the two most divisive presidents in our nation's history.
Unfortunately "divisive" is one characteristic our generation will forever be remembered. For the first time in a long time the Texas primary will have a significant influence on who the final candidates will be from each party.
This will also be the last chance baby boomers will have to be a significant influence on a presidential election. So it's time for us to "grow up" and instead of complaining about "the man" do our part in electing and supporting him....or her.
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate Brad Streit's editorials and his standing up for family/Christian values and conservative political issues. My 18-year-old son and I both love him and his editorials passionately and look forward to them immensely. Keep up the good work! We appreciate you (and need you)! My son is now attending UT Tyler and graduated salutorian of his senior class. I am so grateful he has retained the values he was taught as a child on up and that he enjoys these editorials as much as I do.
