The House That Surratt Built

He took a muddy cow pasture and by hand turned it into an elite ballpark for his players.

Tuesday night the Lindale Eagles honored the man who created their baseball field by naming it after him.

Lindale ISD dedicated Robbie Surratt Field after the coach who spent 21 years with with the Eagles.

Coach Surratt's number 55 jersey was also retired before the game.

"No one will ever wear the double-five at Lindale again," said principal Jamie Holder.

An emotional Coach Surratt chose not to address the crowd but waved his hand and smiled in appreciation. Players made their way over to the former coach and congratulated him with hugs.

Speaking with KLTV after the ceremony, Surratt was still overwhelmed.

"It was a surprise to me," he said. "I wasn't expecting it. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the players. I've got three young grandsons, one of them lives here. Gopefully one day they'll play on this field. That would be neat. "
