TJC To Hold Candlelight Vigil Wednesday

Tyler Junior College students, faculty and staff will gather 6:45 p.m. Wednesday to hold a candlelight vigil in honor of the shooting victims at Northern Illinois University and Louisiana Technical College.

The ceremony will be held on the front lawn of Jenkins Hall, on the TJC main campus.

The public is invited to attend.

"We believe it is important for us to remember the victims and express our condolences to the survivors who are experiencing such unimaginable grief," said Dr. Austin Lane, TJC vice president of student affairs. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the students, faculty, staff and law enforcement officials at these schools."

TJC President Dr. Mike Metke will give remarks.

Mark Jones, director of TJC Baptist Student Ministries, will speak and offer a prayer.

In honor of those lost in the shootings, chimes will ring from Ramey Bell Tower.

Two large banners are being signed by TJC students, faculty and staff with thoughts and condolences and will be sent to Northern Illinois and Louisiana Technical College.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to Wagstaff Gymnasium.

For questions or more information, call the TJC Office of Student Affairs at 903-510-2261.
