I don't know about you but I get discouraged when I see so many teenagers getting in trouble and then getting attention for their exploits. So when a group of teenagers break the norm and show good character I want to recognize them and this week you can help me do that.More >>
Last week in my zeal to be critical of bad teens who get attention I'm afraid I gave the impression that bad behavior is the norm for teenagers.
An 8th grade American History teacher from Mineola set me straight.
Phillip Moore writes, "I am writing in response to a recent editorial. Not the editorial itself but your choice of wording. You used the word "norm" in describing negative actions by teenagers.
While it is commendable what the Pine Tree kids are doing, East Texas teens are doing good things all over the place. Could this not be the "norm".
Maybe so much attention has been called to the negative this is what we have started accepting as normal teenage behavior. If this is the case shame on all of us.
" Well, Mr. Moore's right. A majority of east Texas teens have the character that makes us proud. In my commentary last week I mischaracterized the majority of teens who make this a better east Texas.
And for that I apologize.
You can write me, just like Mr. Moore did by going to our website kltv.com, click the community section and then a better east Texas.
