The Restaurant Report Has You Covered, Even On Valentine's Day

At El Mejicano Restaurant located at 678 WSW Loop 323 in Tyler, roaches were seen crawling around the buffet and in the kitchen; cans of Raid were found in the restaurant, and raw fish was stored directly above the taquitos.  Sliced beef, salsa, and sausage were not properly marked with their preparation dates, and both hot and cold foods were held at the wrong temperature. Total demerits: 36

Inspectors visited El Lugar II at 3320 Troup Hwy. in Tyler, Jan. 30.   There they found cooked beef not kept at the proper temperature.  Employees were observed handling food improperly and without gloves, and raw chicken was stored above drinks and cooked food.  The hand-washing sink wasn't working properly, and roach droppings were found in the hand-washing area.  Total demerits: 25

At Sonic #03129 located at 433 Hwy 110 in Whitehouse, inspectors noted shake mix not being stored at a cold enough temperature.  Rodent droppings were found in storage areas.  The restroom facilities were not clean, and the ice-cream machine, tea containers, slushy makers and other food contact surfaces were unsanitary.  Total demerits: 17
