Tyler ISD Teachers Awarded Grants For Special Projects

A Mardi Gras parade made it's way through several Tyler schools, Friday with a special surprise at the end.  Friday morning, Tyler ISD's Foundation awarded Andy Woods Elementary teacher Carolyn Stewart with a $1,000 grant.  In December, Stewart submitted a proposal for an environmental awareness project she wants her class to do in the spring.  It's Something that is now possible thanks to the Foundation's grant.

"They allow me to dream," said Stewart.  "They allow my kids to get into areas and do projects that we would not be able to do without their help and that's a fact."

"They want a little bit to go above and beyond and the grants allow them to do that," said TYLER ISD Foundation President Michael Thomas.  "They get to be innovative, which is really what we look for."  The Tyler ISD Foundation awarded 14 grants, Friday totaling $22,000.
