Texas Correctional Officers Memorial

It is a branch of law enforcement that is often overlooked and forgotten... The men and women who work in Texas prisons as correctional officers.

Prison units all across the State of Texas joined in a memorial on Friday for correctional officers who have died in the line of duty. One of those memorial services was held at the Bradshaw Jail Unit in Henderson for officers who over the years have fallen behind prison walls. In a solemn ceremony the names of 23 officers who have died in Texas institutions were read. The memorial is dedicated to the tough job that officers have to do in guarding the inmates held in Texas prisons. A memorial plaque from Friday's ceremony, bearing the names of the fallen officers through the years, will be presented for permanent display at the Texas Prison Museum in Huntsville.
