East Texans March And Sing In Honor Of Dr. Martin Luther King's Birthday

In Longview, sweet melodies filled the air as East Texans sang,"We Shall Overcome" and filled the streets in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Today, residents marched from Broughton Recreation Center to Mount Olive Baptist Church. Some marchers that we talked to reflected on Dr. Kings works and the legacy that he left behind.

"I think it's important because Martin Luther King paved the way for us. If it wasn't for him we all wouldn't be together today," said Longview High School Student Shadevin Davenport.

"His message, the person that he was, and his legacy continues to be my inspiration and a big reason why I do the things I do and speak the way that I speak," said Minster Phillip Fenton.

The Longview march wrapped with a memorial service that was held at Mount Olive Baptist church.
