Proud Of East Texas: Mamaw's Fried Pies

By Joan Hallmark - bio - email

WHITEHOUSE, TX (KLTV) - Twin sisters, Gail Harvel and Nell Hoce are cooking up lots of memories at Mamaw's Fried Pies in the city of Whitehouse.  When the two retired from their careers as nail technicians, they started cooking up fried pies in their kitchens and selling them at festivals like the East Texas State Fair.  They used their mother's recipe, and it was such a hit that they soon opened Mamaw's Fried Pies at 113 Highway 110 north in Whitehouse.

The twins admit they now work from forty to sixty hours a week.  So much for retirement, but they love reliving the time their mother made pies for them and the appreciation of their customers.  The twin's mother looks over the operation from a photo in a special corner of the shop.  They're sure she'd be proud of what they're doing.
