As Mother's Day nears, a recently-released book suggests that the mothers of the 43 U-S presidents shared a mild to fervent Christian faith.
Harold Gullan's book is entitled "Faith of Our Mothers: The Stories of Presidential Mothers from Mary Washington to Barbara Bush."
Gullan writes about the influence of Abraham Lincoln's stepmother, who could not read but imparted a love of learning and of the Bible.
Some presidents, like George W. Bush and Jimmy Carter, have surpassed their mothers' in religious zeal.
But mothers like the devoutly Catholic Rose Kennedy were less successful in passing their faith on to their sons.
