The Tyler Police Department made history on Monday. Lieutenant Paula Riggle was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief of Police. She joined the force in 1990, and is now the first female ever to rise to that rank of Assistant Chief. Her family was on hand, including her mother, who pinned Riggle's new badge on her. Riggle said "Women in law enforcement predominantly are the minority. I think it's good occasionally that things happen so a woman can excel in certain areas. I'm hoping that progress is made today. It speaks a lot for the city that they will allow a female to achieve that rank." Riggle has been with the Tyler Police Department for twelve years.
