Wood County Asst. Chief Deputy Loses Battle with Cancer - KLTV.com - Tyler, Longview, Jacksonville |ETX News

Assistant Chief Deputy Mike Rutherford lost his battle with cancer Friday.
Rutherford spent more than a decade with the Wood County Sheriff's Departments. Speaking on behalf of Wood County, Captain Jerry Hirsch said Rutherford will be greatly missed.
In Rutherford's long law enforcement career, he was also Lindale Police Chief and a Lieutenant for Smith County Sheriff J.B. Smith.
"The thing about Mike was his sense of humor, his old cowboy physique and the way he talked to everybody," says Sheriff J.B. Smith. "Mike was a great guy."
Rutherford's funeral is 11 a.m. Monday at Red Springs Baptist Church. Mike Rutherford was 57 years old.
The U.S. Senate has given up hope of passing an overhaul of Obamacare, so the matter is dead legislatively for now.
