There's a new center in town charged with providing resources for East Texans with disabilities. The "East Texas Center for Independent Living" officially opened today to do just that...provide a more independent lifestyle for disabled people in 13 nearby counties. The center will offer things like peer mentoring and skills training. "We try to find the people who are disabled and bring them to the services they need or find the right match for them," says Executive Director, Sharon R. Boback. "There are lot of providers out here that offer services to the disabled population and people don't know how to find those and that's what we're here to do." The "East Texas Center for Independent Living" is located on Shelley Drive in Tyler. That's near the intersection of South Broadway and Loop 323. Their phone number is (903)581-7542. The new center is funded through a Department of Education grant.
